Top tips for happy holidays

In movies, family holidays are full of joy and laughter and people delighted to see each other.  In real life, things tend to be different  in real life with the stress of spending money (on stuff you may or may not want with money you may or may not have!), making lots of food and general tension.

What does a happy holiday mean to you?  Happy holidays, happy Christmas, happy....fill in the blank, is a phrase that is thrown around everywhere this time of year.  What would be your perfect day or few days?  Think about it and see if you can get even a few hours of doing something that you love.

Put yourself first for a few minutes every day so that it all seems easier.  When we do something to raise our energy our thinking becomes more logical and we are more open to positive possibilities.  Even when things are going crazy around us, when our energy is high it all seems much easier.  Check out my Facebook page for some easy energy raising videos...

Find someone to be on your side...is there something that will particularly stress you out this year?  Let someone know so that they can keep an eye out for you and do the same for them.  We all have different trigger points.  I was talking to a lady the other day about her Christmas stress and she immediately went into a long monologue about the difficulty of deciding who to sit beside for Christmas dinner.  This had not occurred to me but it shows that we all have different worries.

I love my lists, so Christmas is a time where the lists come out.  I am aware that I am going to be overworking and aiming for that elusive perfection so I aim to do everything I can to make the days after Christmas stress free.  I plan meals weeks in advance so there is no chance I need to go grocery shopping.  We also plan a nice walk in nature somewhere and watch some movies and eat popcorn.  This is my favourite part of Christmas.  We all tuck up on the sofa (dog and cat too!) and watch some TV.  Indiana Jones was the Christmas movie of my childhood, it was on TV every year.  I think we will watch it again this year.
