Fun Is Not a Bonus, It’s a Signal
You know that moment on a long car journey when children start asking, “Are we there yet?”
They are not really asking about distance or time. What they really want to know is something much simpler.... When do we get to have fun?
As adults, that question does not disappear. It just becomes quieter. More subtle. It often sounds like this instead.
Is life not supposed to be fun?
Somewhere along the way, many of us stop checking in with enjoyment and curiosity. We replace those questions with much heavier ones. Am I being productive enough? Am I on track? Am I using my time well?
Energy speaks a different language. And one of its clearest signals is fun. If we are having fun we are fulfilling at least some of our life purpose. Personally I believe our life purpose is to be ourselves and for me, that feels like having fun...living life lightly!
For me, fun feels sparkly. Quite literally. When I follow my light and listen to my energy, I feel it in my body and my energy field. The next thing to do simply appears in my awareness, and it feels genuinely fun and uplifting. Sometimes that means sitting at my desk and writing or creating something energetic. Sometimes it means making a video for YouTube. Sometimes it is chatting with someone or heading out somewhere. There is no strict plan behind it, just a sense of interest, curiosity, and flow.
Very little in my schedule is really fixed. Client sessions and time with friends on Zoom are the exceptions. No matter what is happening in my life, sitting down with a client or sharing space with a friend always feels amazing. That kind of connection carries an energy that is constant and deeply nourishing for us both.
When I let fun lead, life moves naturally. Things get done without effort. I might walk past my chair, suddenly sit down, and complete something with ease that I had not planned to do at all. There is no forcing involved. Just movement.
This is why I no longer see fun as something extra or optional. Fun is my guidance. It points toward alignment. It shows me where my energy wants to go next. It has taken me years to learn this and to really embody it and I am so glad I did!
This is also why a simple awareness tool like FRED is so helpful. Not as a system to follow, but as a reminder to notice. To ask whether what I am doing still feels lit up with energy. If it does not, I know I can choose again.

You do not have to wait until you arrive somewhere to enjoy the journey.
Fun is not a bonus.
It is a signal that we are living life lightly!
