Appreciation questions to ponder

May 05, 2020

What do I appreciate most about myself?

Are the things I appreciate and focus on in line with who I am?

What would it feel like to go to bed feeling peaceful and appreciative of what I did today?

I love questions.  We create our lives with questions.  The things we ask ourselves are the things we are focused on.  What we focus on ultimately creates our lives.  We filter out all the rest.

I have literally hundreds of questions in a spreadsheet that I have gathered over the years from all the courses I have done and all the people I have learned from.  Sometimes I just scroll down it and stop and see what question pops out at me.

I find it much easier to be grateful for all the things and people in my life than to think about what I appreciate about myself.  It may be an "Irish" thing.  We are a great nation for putting people down if we feel they are getting "too big for their boots" but regardless appreciating myself, just to myself, seems like a great place to start.  When you think about the things you are good at, remember they are your superpowers.  They are the things that bring us joy and fulfillment.    They are also a great positive to tap on to really feel the good qualities of your being.  *****

When you think about the things you appreciate about yourself, do they resonate with you?  Do they feel like a quality that enhances your life?  I can appreciate my organisational skills and my ability to schedule and get things done but I would prefer to really feel appreciation for my kindness and love for my family and myself.

There is another great question, when you think of something that you appreciate about yourself, for me, as I just said, kindness would be really high on the list, do I use that on myself?  Am I kind to Lucy?  Probably not enough.  I must spend some time thinking about this.  I love the fact that I am kind, I love to be kind and considerate to others, it is a big part of who I am and I do really feel out of sorts if I am unkind to someone.  So why on earth am I so unkind to myself sometimes, even if it is just in my thoughts?

That leads me on to the last question... What would it feel like to go to bed feeling peaceful and appreciative of what I did today?

What would I have to have done today?  Work out the bare minimum that you would need to achieve today so that by the end of the day you will be happy and feel at peace.

My new habit, going to give myself a hug and a pat on the back every evening before I pop into bed!
